LgtBlst – Series

This series harkens to the warm browns and ochres of northern Baroque painters such as Rembrandt, Gerrit van Honthorst, and Georges de La Tour. Like those works, these images rely on dramatic chiaroscuro, psychological depth, and emotional intensity, with light emerging from deep shadow.

These images are sourced from my original photographs created in winter 2024-2025.

A square abstract composition dominated by an intense, overexposed column of white and pale yellow light rising vertically through the center of the frame. The light is surrounded by dense, swirling clouds of smoke or vapor in warm tones of peach, amber, and burnt orange, darkening toward deep rust and brown at the edges. Scattered throughout are tiny bright specks, like sparks, embers, or distant stars, giving the scene the feel of an explosion or a nebula.

A square abstract composition in which a bright, overexposed core of white and soft gold light sits left of center, viewed as though at the end of a spiraling vortex. Surrounding it are sweeping, layered bands of translucent material resembling frost, smoke, or brushed plaster, with ridged, feathery textures that curve inward toward the light. The palette is cooler and more muted than the first image in the series: creamy whites, dusty pinks, and taupes, deepening into warm browns and near-black at the lower edge. Small glassy droplets and crystalline flecks catch the light throughout, and darker speckled patches appear along the upper right.

A square abstract composition featuring a brilliant, overexposed column of white light running vertically through the center, slightly right of middle. Around it, layered wisps of translucent material curl and flicker like windblown flames or churning water, rendered in warm tones of honey, apricot, and copper. The color deepens toward rich browns and dark umber at the edges, with a softer, hazier glow along the right side. Tiny bright specks and glinting fragments are scattered throughout, suggesting sparks or drifting embers, and the overall motion sweeps diagonally from the upper left toward the luminous core.

A square abstract composition in which a diffused white light glows through the left-center of the frame, less sharply defined than in earlier images in the series. The surrounding field is filled with thousands of small curling, ribbon-like shapes that overlap like feathers, wood shavings, or torn paper, their edges catching the light in thin highlights. The palette is muted and warm: sand, taupe, caramel, and bronze, with a hazy, smoky softness across the right side. A darker curved band of deep brown sweeps along the lower right edge, framing the scene as if viewed through a rounded opening.

A square abstract composition centered on a luminous, roughly circular chamber of pale light. A brilliant vertical streak of white and gold glows just left of center, while a softer, milky haze with faint hints of lavender fills the right half of the opening. Surrounding the chamber are layered, sculpted textures resembling feathers, fur, or carved plaster, rendered in cream, sand, and caramel tones with fine linear detail. The edges darken gradually to warm browns and deep shadow, especially along the bottom, so the scene reads as a view looking up or out through a hollow toward the light.
